Visceral osteopathy

Visceral osteopathy is a branch of osteopathy that works on the mobility of the internal organs and the tissues surrounding them.

Through gentle manual techniques, it helps restore their physiological mobility, promoting the proper functioning of the digestive, respiratory and urogenital systems and their relationship with the rest of the body.

Osteopathy visceral works with the organs.

According to the osteopathic model, visceral mobility is related to various mechanisms, such as motility, the Primary Respiratory Movement, embryological movement, respiration and peristalsis.
Currently, the only mechanism scientifically proven is the role of the diaphragm as the main driver of organ mobility during respiration.

Scientific evidence

Scientific evidence is still limited (Guillaud et al., 2018). Some studies suggest possible benefits in the treatment of lower back pain associated with visceral dysfunction, although more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy. Effects on the autonomic nervous system have also been proposed, which are still awaiting scientific demonstration.
